MASMATICS
(Minimum Adequate Syllabus for Mathematics)


MASMATICS which refers to “Minimum Adequate Syllabus for Mathematics” is published in the effort to obtain the target group who is able to solve problems systematically, accurately and concisely with minimal coaching from the teacher. Skills that have been identified and chosen from topics are the basic skills that primary school pupils need to master before they sit for the UPSR examination and eventually acquiring all the prerequisite basic skills needed for secondary education.

This MASMATICS Module is the translated version from the original Bahasa Melayu edition of MASMATIK which was produced by a group of headmasters, excellent teachers, resource teachers and Mathematics master trainers of the Perak State. Upon the initiative of the Majlis Guru Besar Perak together with the Perak State Education Department’s co-operation, the Malay version authors have been assisted by English excellent teachers to publish this book. Improvements have been made by adding in the revised skills that is being tested. The old content has also been rechecked so that it is in line with the latest syllabus.

In addition, the main aim of publishing this in English language is to help with the implementation of the Teaching and Learning of Science and Mathematics in English (PPSMI) which will be fully in force in the year 2008. This book can be utilised to help teacher improve pupils’ mathematics skills beginning from Year 4. This is in line with teachers’ efforts in preparing and equipping pupils to face Year 5, Year 6 and finally the UPSR.
